Digital Basic and Intermediate Skills Training

Build Everyday Digital Skills — for Work and Life

The United Steelworkers, in partnership with the Labour Education Centre, is offering a Digital Skills for Employment program focused on basic, everyday digital skills that many people are expected to use at work and in daily life.

This program is foundational, practical, and supportive — designed for people who want to feel more comfortable using computers, email, and online tools, without pressure or assumptions about prior experience.

What this program is (and isn’t)
✔ Is: Basic digital skills you can use right away
✔ Is: Focused on everyday tasks at work and in life
✔ Is: Supportive, step-by-step, and judgment-free
✖ Not: Advanced computer training
✖ Not: Technical or specialized software
✖ Not: A fast-paced or high-pressure course

What you’ll practice

Over 7 weeks, you’ll work on core digital tasks, such as:
• Using a computer comfortably (mouse, keyboard, basic settings)
• Saving, finding, and organizing files
• Writing and responding to emails
• Creating simple documents
• Using the internet safely and effectively
• Understanding how AI tools can help with simple tasks (like rewriting or summarizing text)
• Searching and applying for jobs online, at a basic level

All learning is hands-on and practical, using real-life examples you’re likely to encounter

Who this program is for
This program is a good fit if you:
• Feel unsure or out of practice using computers
• Want to be more comfortable with everyday digital tasks
• Need support with online forms, emails, or job applications
• Want skills that are useful beyond work, in daily life too

You don’t need to be “tech-savvy” — this program is designed for people who are still building confidence.
